3:00 a.m....and you're clearly the better writer because *I* understood *your* story. *g*

Really excellent, Shay! The things we *know* Fraser learned from Ray's file - and all the things we *didn't* know he'd learned: extremely well done.

(and I *adore* Ray reading Fraser's file. Skimming over everything that's irrelevant in his world to get to what's important. Fantastic.)

I enjoyed this! Very clever and interesting!

Loved the "Steve" reference, and the religion thing -- very funny. I can see you're putting together some interesting backstory for RayK, and I hope we get to see it in story form. *G* I was especially curious about his experiences with the drug dealers. Poor baby.

Bwahahaha! Love it.

And love Fraser's approval of the rescue of the 7 year old. He sounds just like his dad there.

The only quarrel I have with this excellent story is that I'm not convinced Fraser would say 'Darn it'. Unless, y'know, a house fell on top of him, or something like that. (grins)

Must disagree re: Fraser saying darn. Actually, I do agree he wouldn't say "darn," but only because I think he'd say "damn." He's alone, and strongly provoked; I think it'd slip out.

I stand corrected.

Hee. I don't remember that scene, will have to re-watch. That's so Due South.

I can hear them saying this! I love the way you provide us with bits and pieces as the two of them scan the files. Writing in the wee hours definitely agrees with you!

Well, it's 7AM nearly, and I'm sipping my first cup of coffee. It makes perfect sense to me. ::g:: Lovely, lovely work, Shay. I especially liked the Franklin references.

It makes lots of sense, dear. Loved the 'retaliatory' snooping Ray did ... and yes, the "Steve" thing was brilliant. Good job!

Wubba! (An exclamation that combines respect, awe and awwwwww.)

Beautifully crafted, dear! Evocative and oblique -- tough to do well, but you succeeded.

This was really cool. The thing I want to see Elaine's version of this story. They both went to her, which kind of puts her in a funny place. She knows that the were both being sneaky behind each other's backs. Hee!

It was Ray's file that killed me--I actually got this heavy feeling in the pit of my stomach. Ray's clearly had a hard time of it--and yeah, ok, reckless, sure; aggressive, sure; divorcing, sure--but it reads an awful lot to me like the profile of a bisexual cop, and that gave it a real depth and resonance, all the more that the words "gay" or "bisexual" or "faggot" or anything never appear in the file, nor does anything (aside from that one testimony to "mitigating circumstances") that would suggest that the 'problem' isn't Ray's fault entirely. Broke my heart, honest to God. Great work, Shay, as usual!

Shay, this was so, so cool. I really love how you picked up that detail from Eclipse about Fraser reading Ray's file and ran with it. Great backstory thoughts, tantalizing hints. Just super.

One year a little too late but I think this is madly fantastic! I don't know how you can drag plot from a police *prolife* with suspense and emotion and character but right now, you could pull a story from two dry rocks in the middle of the Gobi desert and I wouldn't bat an eyelid.

Fraser is so sweet (eeei!) and you do both him and Ray just right.
