In a perfect world, this would be (sigh) even longer and everyone's motivations even clearer--because it's a pretty fucked up situation with everybody coveting everybody else in all sorts of overlapping ways. Oh yes, very sympathetically, but the whole *concept* is mean. Fraser reaching for someone he doesn't want, as a stand-in for the person he does want; Stella being the stand-in, in her loneliness...both in despair. It's...it's almost like something *I'd* come up with!

Haha--ok, yes, the concept I grant you is--well, not mean but sad. I think the Stella is particularly sad, actually; this Stella's oddly betwixt and between to the point that she's not sure what or who she is. She's almost entirely reactive, despite seeming proactive, and that's sad, yeah.

Meanwhile, was it you who wrote the wildly sexy Fraser/Stella where she got fucked by him in a bathroom? I know I didn't dream that...

LOL--okay, I'll take a bow!--but for the record I am hardly the first person to try Fraser/Stella. There's been a couple of flashfictions with that pairing, and there is a kind of triangulation thing that makes their coupling plausible--or at least, you can find motivations for why Fraser would want Stella, for why Stella might want him. But I'm glad you liked my take on it!

Most importantly, she got his attitude: she went into that marriage a shy debutante from the Gold Coast and came out of it prepared to go toe-to-toe with anybody. She had Ray to thank for that, which was another reason she still wore his name.

LOVE this. I love thinking that even now Stella realizes, and appreciates what Ray had given her. Wonderful job.

For me, the hottest thing ever was the thought of Stella watching Ray and the jock making out, and then Ray taking Stella back to the car and fucking her in the backseat. This line in particular, really struck me as something a 17 year old Stella would say:

Finally, she hears herself saying, "But he's a jock," like that's the important point; how could Ray Kowalski even be seen with a jock? Not, she supposed, that Ray ever intended to be seen.
